The Coffeehouse Experience, Part 8 & An Update

Today is the third Tuesday of the month, which means I get to visit another area coffeehouse before I head into my office to see clients. It is a gorgeous, late summer day filled with the lovely hints of fall – cool air and crispness. Thinking about this time of year makes me smile for I love fall.

My stop for today is Denim Coffee in Mechanicsburg, PA. This shop is part of several in the regional Denim Coffee chain. I’ve written before about their locations in Carlisle, which is 15 to 20 minutes away. The shop in Mechanicsburg is situated in the heart of downtown. Parking was no problem for me, but I know that wouldn’t necessarily be the case as it is in a busy area. If I had to guess, the building it is in is well over 100 years old. This adds to the place’s charm.

This location has plenty of indoor seating on both levels, with a few tables outside. The menu is similar to the other locations, which is a comfort for I love my chai tea latte. The vibe here is low-key and friendly. Songs from the 80s and 90s are playing, creating nostalgia for me.

The only downside of this location is the view. I sat toward the back of the shop on the first floor, so I’m facing a dumpster and a back parking lot. The view on the other side is of the downtown. If you like watching cars passing by, then you’d be happy in the front.

I hit the jackpot as far as busyness is concerned for there are very few people here. It’d be interesting to come back later in the day though.

An Update….

My second book Writing Through Your Grief  still awaits publication. I am letting my third book Seeking God in My Grief  percolate before I start the self-editing process. It’s a good thing I waited to begin that process because August was a super crazy month for me and I would’ve done my book a great disservice by trying to squeeze in the next step in the midst of that craziness. My goal remains to let it sit at least until the end of the year before I get back into it again.

Because of the busy summer, I have not made a decision on what my next writing project will be. At one point, I was debating between a memoir and a novel but now I’m considering a project that involves writing and meditation. More to come on this….

Lastly, I have started to look ahead to 2024 and what that will entail writing-wise. I know a lot of it will focus on promoting my second book and editing my third. I am also considering going on my first far-away-from-home writing retreat. I’ve gone on several at-home or near-home retreats, as I’ve blogged about previously, but the time has come to try something new. Come along with me on this ride as I discern where to go and when. I’ll be devoting my next post or two on retreats, the decision-making process, etc.
